Dr. Ashley M. Pfaff is a graduate of Northwestern Health Sciences University, Bloomington, Minnesota, where she received her Doctor of Chiropractic degree. Dr. Ashley is originally from Ipswich, SD where she graduated from high school. She then went on to Presentation College in Aberdeen, SD, where she received her Bachelor of Sciences with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry in December of 2006.
Dr. Ashley primarily focuses her education and practice on pediatric, pre, and postnatal chiropractic care. She is one of the few Doctors of Chiropractic in South Dakota and the only one currently practicing in Sioux Falls that has earned her certification from the Academy of Chiropractic Family Practice and the Council on Chiropractic Pediatrics (C.A.C.C.P.). This curriculum is extensive training and testing in pediatric, pre and postnatal care, as well as, craniosacral therapy training for infants, children and adults.
Dr. Ashley is also certified in the Webster Technique, which is used as a safe means to restore proper pelvic balance and function. A large percentage of pregnant women experience back pain during pregnancy, due to structural changes that occur to pregnant mother's body and to the rapid growth of the baby. Sacral subluxation may contribute to difficult labor for the mother (i.e. dystocia). Dystocia is caused by inadequate uterine function, pelvic contraction and baby mal-presentation. This analysis has been shown to correct the subluxation of the sacrum, having a positive effect on all causes of dystocia.
Dr. Ashley is a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, South Dakota Chiropractic Association, and the Sioux Empire Chiropractic Society.
Dr. Ashley's approach to treatment is to find the underlying cause of the problem, keeping her patient's best interest in mind. She not only treats the symptoms, but will also work with you to prevent problems from occurring in the future. Each treatment program is designed specifically for the individual. She finds it especially important to help patients improve their overall health with spinal adjustments, nutrition counseling, exercise and stretching instructions. She will take the extra time with patients to reduce pain with muscle and soft tissue massage. Dr. Ashley is established in the area and, if necessary, will refer to providers such as neurologists, orthopedic doctors, or physical therapists to further evaluate your problem.
Dr. Ashley is available to speak to your company, school, or club on health related topics such as back injury prevention, pregnancy and postpartum care, children's health, workplace ergonomics and other musculoskeletal conditions that chiropractic care can relieve and prevent.
In Dr. Ashley's free time she enjoys spending time with family and friends, being outdoors, staying active, and cheering on the local sporting teams. She is an active member of the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce, Revenue & Referrals and various groups within her church and community.
